Dr. Doom Mask, Marvel Comics

The Dr. Doom mask was the first piece commissioned from SoloRoboto Industries by an outside client.

A casting of the client’s head was made from plaster bandages, and the shape of the mask was sculpted over that to ensure a good fit. A silicone mold was made of the sculpture, and a urethane resin positive cast from the mold. The resin casting was body shopped, and further details added (including the mouth “grill” and all the rivets), before a second silicone mold was made.

The final version of the mask was cast in urethane resin, cleaned up, and painted with a combination of airbrush and hand brushed acrylics and metal powders. The mask features felt-lined padding, and adjustable 3-point elastic harness for comfort and stability when wearing.
